Build the Foundation First. Everything Else Follows.
There's a feeling I remember from the early years of building Systematic Alpha.
Every improvement we made — to the strategy, the process, the infrastructure — felt like laying another brick.
The outside world didn't see it yet.
Allocators weren't calling.
AUM was small.
But inside, I knew exactly what we were building. And I knew it was right.
The hours were long. But I never felt like I was working.
That's what happens when you're truly absorbed in something. The line between work and passion disappears. You're not watching the clock. You're just building.
That feeling — working toward something you believe in before anyone else recognizes it — is one of the most satisfying experiences in this business.
The results came eventually.
What started as almost nothing grew into one of the larger systematic CTA funds of its kind at the time.
But the foundation came first. Quietly. Without validation.
Build the foundation right. Everything else follows.
